ReThink Leadership Conference Day -1 Recap

Well, I arrived in ATL for the ReThink Leadership Conference today. It actually doesn’t start till tomorrow, but they had a VIP reception for those of us that got in early. It was good. I actually got to chat with Carey Nieuhoff. He’s actually a really nice guy. I mean I know he sounds that way when you hear him on his podcast or preaching or something, but he is actually really cool in person.I also got to reconnect with an old blogging friend, Ryan Reed, and found out he now lives not far…See More

I’m Going To A New Conference Next Week

For the past few years I have attended and blogged from the Orange Conference in Atlanta. I will still be traveling to Atlanta for a conference next year, but I will not be at the Orange Conference, at least not entirely. This year the people that put on the Orange Conference are putting on a new conference just for senior church leaders, the ReThink Leadership Conference. Since I am now kinda the senior pastor of Journey Church I’ve decided to go there instead. Ok, technically Journey Church…See More

Book Review: 8 simple tools for raising great kids

One thing that just about every parent has in common is that they want to be a good one. If we are honest, most of us would admit that we could be better at it than we are. That’s why there are so many books on the subject of parenting. In fact a quick search on Amazon for the term “parenting” brings up over 180,000 results. With that in mind why would we need another parenting book? How could we even know which book to buy? I certainly will not begin to tell you which of the 180,000 plus…See More

Jesus Isn’t White

Jesus isn’t White…He also isn’t black. He isn’t hispanic, or Asian, or any other “race”. Many times I have heard or read people talking about the image of a “white” Jesus that has become all to familiar in western Christianity. Just this morning I watched a video where a man said that this was evidence of white privilege. This is the question I would ask those that want to argue over the color of Jesus skin:What difference does it make?Jesus IS not white. There, I said it again. Jesus isn’t…See More

Preteens and Peer Pressure

Being a preteen is HARD. Anyone that says it isn’t either had a charmed life, is lying or was home schooled. Ok, I’m just kidding about the home school thing. It’s hard for them too. But, seriously, it’s just a hard time in your life.Peer Pressure: Part of what makes middle school so hard is peer pressure. Sure this exists prior on some level in early elementary, but not to the same extent. Of course it exists in high school, but many kids have learned how to say no by that time. But, when you…See More

Is Orange Conference Just For Children’s Ministers?

If you are in ministry, then you are aware of the many different conferences out there designed to help us do what we do, even better. There is also a fair chance that you have heard of the Orange Conference. Unfortunately, there is a fair chance that you think that Orange is a children’s ministry thing. Maybe you think that it is for children and youth. But, it is actually so much more than that. If you lead within the context of the local church, then this conference is for you.  Start-Up…See More

Poem: Mom

Nine months in the womb,

you carried me through.

Every breath that you took,

I shared with you.

The miracle of birth,

together all the way.

From my first breath,

still together today.

Motherly love,

And such a caring voice.

You knew right from wrong,

but you gave me the choice.

Cause of all of your love,

and all that you do.

Our love and this day,

we all give to…

I’m a Nurse

Posted on May 26, 2016 at 10:54am 0 Comments

I’m a nurse.
I have seen many people die.
I have watched husbands lose wives and wives lose husbands.
I have watched children lose parents and, even worse, I have watched parents lose children.
If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like being a nurse, this is what it’s like. In the midst of  all this, what keep us human?
I have stood by while doctors gave a first time diagnosis of cancer, and I’ve seen the fear in the eyes of the…

Hi, Matt!

"Mary Rice Hopkins & Puppets with A Heart" is a NEW Christian children's program which employs the use of live action, master puppetry, and song to create a weekly episodic program which equally entertains and teaches valuable life-choices to its young audience.

You can tune in Saturdays on TBN or view online.  This show deals with tough issues kids are facing today and will change children's hearts for a lifetime.  Program schedule on Saturdays:  8:30 a.m. (PST), 9:30 a.m. (MT), 10:30 a.m. (CT), and 11:30 a.m. (EST).
