Relationships with Other Staff Members

Who do you get along with on your staff?  Who makes you crazy?  Lots of times kidmin people feel very much like we exist in our own world in the church.  Sometimes we feel like no one understands our world, much less appreciates it.  And alot of times, those feelings or perceptions are our own fault.

Because we are so busy, sometimes our relationships with other staff members do not take priority.  We invest little and then wonder why they don’t understand us.  We gripe a lot and then…

The Importance of Puppets

I’ve been a puppeteer most of my life. It’s a big part of what I do now for a living at Church on the Move, but I performed, wrote and created for several years as a volunteer. Obviously, I’m passionate about what I do, and with good reason.

During my years at COTM I’ve seen firsthand (no pun intended) the universal appeal of puppetry. Contrary to what some people may believe, I’ve witnessed literally every age group – from infants to senior citizens – laugh…

Bible Reading Challenge Week 9

Apparently, not only has it taken a fair amount of discipline to stay up on these readings, but it also takes some effort to get these posts out each week.  I apologize for my inconsistancy, but I am working to remedy that.

Following are this coming week’s readings.

Monday (February 28, 2011)…

Free offline translations from YouVersion

A few days ago I got an email from YouVersion telling me that you can download many translations of the Bible for offline access… for free. It’s in celebration of the 400th anniversary of the King James Bible. I logged in the other night and downloaded 5-6 versions of the Bible for all my devices. Fantastic! Since my iPhone always has internet access,…

Top Music for VBS 2011 . . . Take Two!

Why children's ministry?

Have you ever really sat down and thought about why children's ministry exists? There is no scripture that talks about children's ministry specifically. And it's only really been a focus in the past 20 years or so, so why is it important? Why are you in? Is it a job that pays the bills, or do you just like hanging around with kids? For me it's because I know that more than any age in the existence, Kids get it. They trust God without a second guess, they understand that God loves them, and they… Continue

"Put Feet to Their Faith" and Involve Your Children in a Project with Angel Tree Camping!

Most of you, and the people in your church and community, are likely familiar with Prison Fellowship's Angel Tree; but you may not know about their Angel Tree Camping. This month Angel Tree Camping is my "Put Feet to Their Faith" ministry focus so I'd like to encourage you to consider how you could involve the children and families in your church to make a difference in the life of a child from your community with Angel Tree Camping.

Back at it!

It's another new season for Uncle Charlie!  (Details in the linked Newsletter).  The short of it is that I am now part time Children's Worship Leader in a local church called The Crossing Church south of Tampa, but will still be traveling and leading children's worship workshops in churches that wish to train their volunteers in kids worship.  See details at www.unclecharlie.com.  I will also be traveling periodically to lead worship…

Tonight in "The Hedge of Thorns," the thorns get the best of John. Then in The Pond, the creatures are on the hunt for a lifetime supply of chocolate.  After that, there's a new creature in Galatia.

App of the Week: Splice & movimup

I thought I’d share two of the coolest new apps I came across this week. I was thinking to myself not too long ago about how much I hate that Titus is growing up so quickly. The funny way he said helicopter and propeller are gone. I should have gotten that on video. Or those other times I needed a quick video to get out to volunteers about something really simple… sometimes it’s not worth the hassle of getting the camera out, bringing it into iMovie and all that…

"Put Feet to Their Faith" with a Project to Help Haiti Through Samaritan's Purse

For the last month I've been encouraging you to involve the children in your church with a project to help the people in Haiti for our "Put Feet to Their Faith" February Ministry Focus. Samaritan's Purse has worked, and continues to work in one of the most difficult, yet neediest places in the world. The earthquake literally brought the Haitian's "world" crumbling down around them only to… Continue

Social Media and the Nugget Theory

(One of 4 great articles featured in the Kidology Report)

Social media - 15 years ago if you said that phrase no one would have known what on earth you were talking about, but today - everyone knows and nearly everyone participates. On one hand we have amazing tools in Facebook, MySpace, Twitter etc, to connect with friends and family on a global scale. It increases… Continue
