Be a great father this Father’s Day. Give unconditional love

I sat with my son, Mark, a few days ago and asked him: What did I do right as a father?

I want to share his answer with you and trust it will encourage you in how you relate to others.

Unconditional love is a good idea. Actually it is a God idea.  It is love that is based on the best for the other person, independent of what the giver gets in return or…

2 Guest Family Follow Up Tools You Can Use

Here are two tools that we use to follow up with parents who are first-time guests.

The first tool is a follow up letter.  The second one is a survey that we include with the letter.  The survey shows new parents that we value their input and also provides us with great feedback about their first experience.  We get several of these surveys back each week.

If a return survey provides us with an area we can grow in, we work on improving that…

Be So Very Careful . . . Don't Be A "Sponge"!

When we serve in children's ministry - or any area of the church - it can become very easy for us to accept the kindness of others . . .

  • a kind word to lift our spirits when we are tired - don't you typically   have at least one person who speaks kindly to you each week?

Digital Books are for Common Sense Kids

Common Sense Kids began when 4th grade teacher, Cortney Campbell of Warren T. Jackson Elementary in Atlanta, GA, sought out to motivate her students with a persuasive writing topic she knew they would love. That weekend she had watched the Apple Education Summit and learned for the first time how iPad technology was replacing…

5 Values of Vacation Bible School

“Should we have a VBS this summer?” Vacation Bible School is often viewed through the distorting lens of problems, hassles and disorganization. VBS should be the core of every church’s summer ministry to children.

To obtain a clear focus, it helps to take a panoramic view of the values:

1. Concentrated Bible study for pupils and a unique evangelistic tool. More children make a decision for Christ during VBS than at any other time during…

Fun Refreshments for Kids

(Check for allergies.)

Catch A Fish!

On each child's plate, place 1/3 cup Goldfish crackers, ten pretzel sticks and two tablespoons peanut butter or Cheese Whiz. The kids can pretend the pretzels are fishing poles and by dipping the "poles" in peanut butter they can then "catch" fish!

Jell-o Cones

Make Jell-o. Once it sets, cut into small squares. Fill ice cream cones. Top with whipped topping. Insert a plastic…

5 Things You Don't Want to Look Back and Regret in Ministry

Don't look back and regret not spending enough time with your family.  Is your ministry at church keeping you from your first ministry priority....your family?  Your kids will be grown and gone before you blink.  Don't look back and regret not making your family your number one priority.

Don't look back and regret not slowing down to celebrate the victories.  Is your ministry schedule so busy that you rush on to the next…

Let It Bring Him Praise!

Serving in the Children's Ministry and Family Ministry is one of the most amazing  things you will ever be blessed to do . . . even with all the challenges related to this area of ministry! I have often said, if Jesus were to physically visit any of our churches on a Sunday morning, but He only had 30 minutes to be there, I'm totally convinced He would absolutely visit the children's ministry for the following reasons . .…

Family Pick - The Berenstain Bears - Help the Homeless - I'm Giving One Away!

My mom always gave books to me for birthday and Christmas as I grew up, so reading is something I have valued and enjoyed all my life. I believe if we are intentional about introducing children - from the youngest ages - to good books and hold up reading as something which is a wonderful and fun thing for us to do, we are giving a gift to children which will benefit them all their lives! Plus, when the books have a message which encourages a closer walk with God and living what they…

5th/6th director needed at large church in Dallas

We are needing a 5th and 6th director at a large church in Dallas, TX. The bulk of the job is the Wednesday night and Sunday morning programs. We have a large budget and a good number of kids, though the program is in a bit of a rebuilding phase and has HUGE potential and HUGE support.

Skills should be that of an up-front leader that can create compelling environments for kids. We need someone with experience in a successful, energetic kidmin.

Because of a…

H.O.P. Day

"H. O. P." stands for "Help Other People." Make a list of things the children can do for neighbors or friends. This might include mowing lawns, washing cars, washing windows, dusting or writing a letter for an elderly person.

8 Things To Remember When Playing Games With Kids

Games are an excellent way to build cohesion in the group as the children learn to trust and work together. They also break the ice and help any new boys or girls become better acquainted.

1. Organize extensively.

Be sure you know how to play each game and what the rules are. Think about the location where the game will be played and imagine your group being there. What problems might be encountered?

2. Be prepared with…
