Every year, youth and children from around the nation gather at the flagpole at their schools and pray for revival. Some have left children out of this great event because of the need for adult supervision. But adults are legally allowed to join students in prayer. One of the greatest things you can do for the children in your ministry as they go back to their elementary schools is to organize a See You At the Pole Event.
Engage: Go and Pray
See You at the Pole is held on the… Continue

Cue - The Jefferson's Theme Song
Today we had our church's first Move Up Sunday for our 6th graders. It was really great to recognize the kids who I have been able to spend time with over the last 17 months. I am really excited to see them growing up and moving into our youth ministry. Of course I hate to let them go as well.
We had the kids sit with their parents until we celebrated and the kids then went with me into our elementary area. I decided on Saturday that I… Continue

Recently we were awakened to the 4/14 Global Summit and the man, Luis Bush, who coined the phrase,"10/40 Window". He on his website has said some fascinating things that I believe will be of great interest to others in Children's Ministry. The 4/14 window is a move to reach children ages 4 years through 14 years worldwide. It is amazing Luis Bush's perspective. His position is that he sees that the church needs to focus on children! YES,I can hear all of us who have worked with kids for years… Continue

Teaching children about Salvation
There is much confusion today about what it means to be a Christian. It is very important that what we teach children about their relationship with God is accurate. When we just teach children that salvation is “being friends with God” or “having Jesus as their best friend” we are not exactly presenting the full scope of what being a Christian really is. I can be friends with you, but it does not change my life for eternity. It does not give me… Continue

I'm looking for a program to run for about 15-17 kids with an age range from 5-10. It's always a challenge with this age spread and I don't have the volunteers to break them up into groups. Any suggestions? Also, does anyone know if there is anything on "characters in the Old Testament" who were children? I know there is for teens. I think this would be a great way for kids to learn some of the "stories" in the O.T.
Thanks in advance - Karen in Florida

I recently went through freshmen orientation with my son, an event that required several cups of coffee (how could a modern university not have espresso?). I had several good conversations with other parents, including a pastor in a large Christian denomination. (The specifics are not important!) He observed that many of their churches were removing pastoral positions, like youth and children's pastors. The reduction in money coming into the church required such staff reductions, and both of us… Continue

Pitino and Sypher will have a lot to answer for … beyond the voices of today. Beyond the confusion, the disappointment, the heartache, and anger that have been wrought by their indiscretion, there will be yet another voice they will hear beckoning for justice. For a “moment” – probably wasn’t much more – of sex … mere fleeting carnal pleasure, there will be a day of reckoning that will quicken their hearts more than they dreamed possible.
My heart and mind cannot escape the mayhem of… Continue

Does taking a stand for Christ make me bold or prudish? If it’s prudish, sobeit. Last I looked, God’s Word didn’t set aside the sports arena as a sacred institution. He didn’t offer to measure our standards of living by our success or lack thereof. The rules apply to all. Equally. The pervasive mentality of the self-proclaimed egos today insists on invoking judgment on those of us who still find loyalty and integrity in the covenant relationship a noble cause. So what if stats report 60 percent… Continue

I realize that I may offend someone by posting this, but I'm going to mention it anyway. I am not trying to be judgmental or offensive, I just don't understand some things about church culture. I struggle with the professionalism that exists within the church. From our Sunday morning clothing to the smoothly run worship service. Does anyone else struggle with this and how do you overlook it?
