It is the very last episode of the “The Basket of Flowers” tonight, and it finally feels like the sun has come out to shine on Mary once again. Then in the Pond, Methuselah invites everyone to visit his old church, but they’re too afraid to go! After that, Elisha has three choices to make.…

last week i received a super nice note from a kidmin pastor who i had recently completed consulting work for. the words were so encouraging and generous that i re-read the note at least a million times. the words meant the absolute world to me. i replied to the note, thanking the pastor repeatedly for the kind gesture. and then, i took action!
because i’ve noticed that simply thanking …Continue
My role in ministry is a constant juggle. There are always projects, special events, team building, volunteer recruiting, personnel conversations, refining conversations, encouraging conversations, “I’m frustrated!” conversations, etc, etc, etc. The plate is always full.
Should it always be this way? Great question. This is…Continue

Welcome back to our series on dealing with the emotions of divorce. One of the most cited emotional impacts of divorce on kids is anger. They get angry with their parents. They get angry that they were not consulted during the process. They get angry about living in two houses. They get angry about financial changes. They get angry about having to change schools and move houses and on and on and on. There are lots of things to be angry about.
The single most important thing you…Continue

A couple of years back, I created a Christmas Carol Advent to count down the days until Christmas in song. In that advent, I concentrated primarily (though not exclusively) on more traditional Christmas music. This year, I thought I would update things a little bit and…Continue

A couple of years back, I created a Christmas Carol Advent to count down the days until Christmas in song. In that advent, I concentrated primarily (though not exclusively) on more traditional Christmas music. This year, I thought I would update things a little bit and concentrate primarily on more contemporary songs. There is some overlap. I haven’t counted exactly, but I think…Continue

The day is coming soon when many of our kids will have their Bible in electronic form. For years in children’s ministry and continuing today much stock has been put into training our kids to be able to quickly locate scriptures. Perhaps you have run “Sword Drills” and handed out mass amounts of candy rewards. How many kids in your ministry have maybe felt inadequate or embarrassed about their ability to keep pace with their peer’s incredible lightning fast page shuffling skills? Now that…Continue

This year the McClain family is using a devotional written by our friend, Alan Danielson. He released the eBook,…Continue

Okay . . . I live in Michigan and we are supposed to get some snow today . . . we typically have no shortage of snow. I've never been a big "fan" of the cold, white stuff, but since winter is upon us, I'm posting a free short object lesson you could use with the children in your ministry!

I love it when a lesson sticks.
For the past quarter we’ve been teaching the Peacemaker series in our children’s church and I’ve been seeing some payoff at home.
As brothers do, my sons got in a fight and the older one hit the younger one. I wasn’t privy to that part of the fight but I did over hear them working through the…

I'm not one to reinvent the wheel...especially when others have already discovered successful ways for getting results! Yesterday, our children's pastor asked us to develop a list of ideas of ways to engage parents in becoming more active in their child's spiritual development throughout the week. I can't think of a better group of people to ask than those of you here at CMconnect:
What are some strategies that you have found to be successful in motivating parents to…Continue

I was reading a local news story this morning and the correlation to ministry was overwhelming. The story talks about a local volunteer fire company that has had volunteers baking pies as a fundraiser for about the last 50 years and next month, this tradition will end. Why is the tradition ending? Simply because no one else has come in to learn and continue the tradition. The same men have been doing it for years…Continue

Tonight in the “The Basket of Flowers,” Amelia makes am amazing discovery in the lightning-struck pear tree. Then in Supernatural Fingerprints, we’re exploring a boingy kind of creature. After that, some of King Ahaziah’s snooty captains get more than they bargain for.
